Decoding PAN, TAN and GST Numbers.

 

Our endeavor is to comprehend the underlying structure of tax identification numbers such as PAN, TAN, and GST, and explore the methods to extract pertinent information from these numbers.


PAN – Permanent Account Number

·         10 Digit Number

·         First 3-digit number AAA to ZZZ

·         4th digit stands for the status of PAN holder i.e.,

§  P – Person

§  A – AOP

§  B – BOI

§  C – Company

§  F – Firm/LLP

§  G – Government

§  H – HUF

§  L – Local Authority

·          5th digit depicts the surname of a person or the name of the entity in another.

·           6th- 9th digit Random Numbers

·         10th digit Alphabetic check digit 

 

TAN – Tax deduction / Collection number

 

·         10-digit number

·         First 3 digits – City or state where the TAN was issued (Insta – concept. Decoded)

·         4th digit – First alphabet of the name of the individual, Firm, Company Etc.

·         5th- 9th digit – Numeric.

·         10th digit Alphabetic check digit 

 

Ø  GST – Goods and Service Tax.

·         15-digit number

·         First 2 digits – state code

·         3rd – 12th digit – PAN Number

·         13th digit – Number of registrations of the entity within the state.

·         14th – 15th digit – Random digits
